Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini Women

Established to honor His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s directives to elevate Bahraini women’s roles in society, the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for Bahraini Women Empowerment was created by Royal Decree No. (5) for 2004 (Arabic only). In 2019, Royal Order No. (17) updated the award’s framework, renaming it the HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini Women. The update introduced new categories for civil society organizations and individuals to better reflect national achievements. Presented biennially, the award aims to empower Bahraini women through various initiatives and celebrates accomplishments across its categories.

The HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini is a pioneering national initiative focused on elevating women’s roles in the workforce. As the first award of its kind, it serves as a strategic mechanism to enhance the competitiveness of Bahraini women, fostering their development as a productive and constructive force. The award promotes gender balance, encourages practices that ensure sustainable progress for Bahraini women in the labor market, and aims to enhance their contributions to the national economy.

The Awards’ main objectives:

• Highlight the efforts of ministries, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and individuals in supporting Bahraini women's empowerment and maintaining a balance between their professional and family responsibilities.
• Encourage ministries, institutions, and civil society organizations to enhance Bahraini women's presence and effectiveness, and enable them to assume decision-making positions.
• Promote women representation and participation within ministries, institutions, and civil society organizations, and support research, surveys, and studies that advance Bahraini women and gender balance.
• Assist in overseeing national initiatives to empower Bahraini women and incorporate their needs into the development process.
• Encourage ministries, public and private institutions, and civil society organizations to develop and leverage the capabilities and expertise of Bahraini women for community development.
• Recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals and organizations that empower women to drive positive societal change and sustainable community development.

This pioneering initiative supports global efforts to empower women and girls, honoring achievements across four categories: civil society, public and private institutions, and individuals.
