Women Safety & Protection
The Kingdom of Bahrain has implemented crucial measures to ensure women's safety, such as Law No. (17) of 2015 on Protection from Domestic Violence. This legislation aims to safeguard all family members and establish a secure environment conducive to their well-being and development. In 2015, the Supreme Council for Women launched the National Strategy to Protect Women from Domestic Violence, aiming to safeguard and advance the rights of Bahraini women while combating various forms of violence, including domestic violence. This underscores Bahrain's commitment to achieving Target 5.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to "eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation," as well as its adherence to Law No. (17) of 2015 Protection from domestic violence (6 pages, 117 KB, PDF). The strategy is keen to secure and enhance the Bahraini women's rights and combat all forms of violence against them including domestic violence.
According to Public Prosecution statistics, domestic violence reports dropped from 3,017 in 2022 to 2,807 in 2023, marking a 7% decrease. Protection orders in domestic violence cases rose from seven in 2020 to eight in 2023, totaling 18 orders issued between 2020 and 2023.
The Government has dedicated multiple centers that are made available for women who do not feel safe and require help.
