As part of Bahrain's ongoing commitment to innovation and digital transformation, the Kingdom has taken proactive steps to create a supportive and well-regulated environment for crypto assets and digital assets. Bahrain is one of the first countries in the region to implement a comprehensive regulatory framework that fosters growth, trust, and investor protection in the crypto space.

The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) introduced a clear regulatory framework for crypto-asset (cryptocurrency) services through its Crypto-Assets Module which provides a legal and operational framework for crypto-assets providers to undertake several activities including reception and transmission of orders, trading as an agent, trading as principal, providing crypto-asset investment advice, portfolio management services, providing crypto-asset custody services, operating a crypto-asset exchange, and acting as a digital token advisor. In addition, considering the emerging nature of the crypto asset industry, CBB may allow licensed crypto assets providers to provide additional activities that are beyond the established regulatory framework on a case-by-case basis. These regulations aim to ensure transparency, compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) laws, and consumer protection.

Bahrain is home to licensed platforms which are licensed and regulated by the CBB, providing users with safe and secure access to crypto assets trading. Through innovation-friendly initiatives like Bahrain FinTech Bay and the Regulatory Sandbox, startups and innovators can test and launch crypto-related services in a controlled and supportive environment. The CBB also plays a vital role in closely monitoring crypto-asset activities, ensuring the financial system remains secure while encouraging innovation in financial technologies.
