The LMRA oversees pre-employment medical examinations, in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MOH), promoting health and safety for all foreign workers. Responsible for implementing Labour Law No (36) of 2012, the Ministry assists with dispute resolution, worker rights advocacy, and trade union support, all provided without fees. The Ministry also mediates between trade unions and employers and strives to resolve disputes amicably and equitably.

The Kingdom of Bahrain pays special attention to combatting trafficking in persons and has been able to attain many distinguished achievements in this field. Through its efforts, the Kingdom was able to become the first MENA country to secure the United States’ State Department’s tier 1 classification in combating human trafficking. Moreover, it is the only MENA country to achieve this classification 7 subsequent times

The National Human Trafficking Hotline, (995) available 24/7 in multiple languages via the LMRA portal, provides essential support for reporting abuse or exploitation, as well as providing general assistance and guidance as required; and (555) of Anti-Human Trafficking and Protection of Public Morals is also available 24/7 in multiple languages via the Ministry of Interior, which also provides essential support for reporting abuse or exploitation.

A Sheltering Centre at LMRA that works directly with the Public Prosecution is dedicated to receive and assess cases, in addition to recommending appropriate actions, including repatriation or facilitating suitable employment in Bahrain for affected individuals.

Reporting and addressing Labour Complaints

The Labour Inspection Department within the Ministry of Labour investigates complaints from private-sector workers, seeking fair and legal solutions. Workers are encouraged to report concerns, helping to ensure workplace rights and justice are maintained.LMRA also provides support in assisting expatriate workers to submit labour or civil disputes through the Expat Protection Centre, ensuring access to the relevant courts is granted.

Ensuring Fair Payment and Financial Inclusion

Bahrain mandates that employers pay expatriate workers’ salaries via bank accounts, ensuring full salary delivery and reducing wage theft risk. This policy, coordinated by the LMRA, the Central Bank of Bahrain, and private sector partners, introduces International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs) for all expatriates upon arrival at Bahrain International Airport.
