In the Kingdom of Bahrain, intellectual property rights serve as the bedrock for fostering innovation and creativity across various sectors. Recognising the pivotal role of IP in driving economic growth and technological advancement, Bahrain has implemented robust IP legal frameworks and IP support mechanisms to protect and promote the IP rights of creators, inventors, and innovators.

In an international perspective, Bahrain is a member of 13 IP international treaties and has enacted comprehensive Intellectual Property Laws that regulate IP protection. This commitment to international standards underscores Bahrain's dedication to fostering innovation and creativity while respecting intellectual property rights and upholding international standards and best practices.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is a signatory to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty. The country achieved the 44th position on the World Economic Forum's 2017-2018 Global Competitiveness Index, highlighting its commitment to global intellectual property standards.

Protecting Intellectual Property in Bahrain

Intellectual property falls into two main categories: (Industrial property) and (Authors' Rights and Attendants' Rights). The Industrial property, which includes patents, trademarks, industrial designs, integrated circuits, geographical indications, and trade secrets is administered by the Ministry of Industry & Commerce. On the other hand, the Authors' Rights and Attendants' Rights, covering copyrights and related rights, are administered by the Ministry of Information.
