Internet connectivity has become a cornerstone for the development of all key sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is also a fundamental enabler of adopting advanced technologies and building a sustainable digital and knowledge-based economy. Bahrain has always been distinguished by its modernized and advanced digital infrastructure, which allows it to deliver world-class internet services.
According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) report, Bahrain ranked 7th globally in the ICT Development Index 2023, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to continuously developing its telecommunications sector and ensuring reliable, high-quality, and sustainable internet connectivity.
Bahrain also boasts wide internet penetration. The number of mobile subscribers reached 2.56 million, with a penetration rate of 161%. Additionally, broadband subscriptions reached 2.6 million, with a penetration rate of 165%, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) 2024 report. Bahrain was also among the world’s first adopters of 5G technology, reinforcing its vision of a fully integrated and sustainable digital economy.
As part of the Government of Bahrain’s commitment to ensuring inclusive internet access for all, internet services have been made available to teachers and students in all public and private schools as part of the Digital Empowerment in Education Project.
The Kingdom has also made free public Wi-Fi accessible in various locations, including Bahrain International Airport, public transportation, major shopping malls, commercial centers, and other public spaces.
