BeAware Bahrain App
The BeAware Bahrain smartphone app utilises cloud technologies and location tracking to help the authorities quickly and easily identify individuals in contact with anyone who has shown COVID-19 symptoms and track and alert them.
The app sends alerts to individuals in close proximity to a positive case or when they are at a site visited by an infected person. The application also tracks the movement of infected individuals subject to quarantine for 7 days from the date of infection for Green Shield holders and 10 days for Non-Green Shield holders, publishes health recommendations and highlights the latest global developments concerning the virus.
Long With the current pandemic the whole world is facing and in line with directives of the Kingdom of Bahrain Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to deploy modern technologies in finding a solution to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), in cooperation with the National Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19), worked endlessly to introduce the BeAware Bahrain app to help support national efforts in mitigating the virus spread.

About BeAware Bahrain App
Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the Government of Bahrain, following the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines has been implementing a critical response plan ensuring social distancing measures virus contact tracing, and health care facility surge facilities along with clear and tailored communications to the public. The Government is leveraging various digital technologies in Government’s response plans particularly towards the virus contact tracing and tailored communications.
BeAware Bahrain helps the public by:
- Providing relevant and accurate COVID-19 information from authorized sources
- Notifying individuals when they come in close contact with suspected COVID-19 cases to help reduce infection spread
- Providing access to eServices to help users book for vaccination, display the vaccination certificate, book an appointment for a PCR test, view test results, and even report vaccination status or recovery that happened outside the kingdom of Bahrain and much more which is updated regularly based on any developments.
BeAware Bahrain is an initiative by the Government of Bahrain to:
- Provide relevant and accurate information to the public at regular intervals.
- Accelerate contact tracing and identification efforts of health authorities.
- Enable close vigilance of self-isolated/quarantined individuals and monitoring of their contacts to mitigate the virus spread.
- Facilitate the scheduling of COVID-19 tests.
- Support the COVID-19 response at the national and international levels.
The Government of Bahrain is committed to safeguarding the privacy of data in line with the personal data protection law (PDF, 346KB, 55 pages). It assures that the data collected through the app is strictly only used for the sole purpose of limiting the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 contact tracing by health authorities and does not reveal the personal identity of the users to any third party. Data encryption is used to protect sensitive data.
BeAware Bahrain App Features
BeAware Bahrain app provides the following services and features:
- My Cards: A digital folder for your government-issued documents that allows you to conveniently view documents such as your ID card, passport, birth certificate, driver's license, and vehicle registration.
- My Medical Appointments: You can easily access and manage your appointments at government health centers and hospitals through the app. Additionally, it provides the option to schedule prescription deliveries at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, as well as book appointments for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.
- My Health Cards: This feature enables you to view your official health documents and records
- View your COVID-19 vaccination record
- COVID-19 test results which you can view and print
- Certificates for COVID-19 isolation and recovery
- Certificates for monkeypox isolation and recovery
- The app offers a suite of COVID-19 related services:
- Registration for COVID-19 vaccination and appointments bookings for approved vaccines
- Obtaining COVID-19 vaccination certificates
- Schedule appointments for COVID-19 antibody testing, with immunity status updates following the issuance of the results.
- Report and address issues related to your COVID-19 health record.
- Isolation Certificate: Access your self-isolation certificate in case of a COVID-19 infection.
- Recovery Certificate: View and print your COVID-19 recovery certificate.
- Valneva Vaccine Consent Form: You can provide consent for the emergency use of the Valneva COVID-19 vaccine, authorized by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Contact Tracing: Receive alerts for COVID-19 testing when you've been in contact with a positive case.
- COVID-19 Test Results and Certificate: Access your COVID-19 lab test results as soon as they are available from the testing center.
- Declaration of Departure from Bahrain: This service allows citizens to make obligatory declarations before leaving the Kingdom.
- Declaration of Arrival in Bahrain: This feature enables individuals to complete and submit the COVID-19 declaration form before arriving in Bahrain.
- Payment for Incoming Traveler's Test: Visitors to Bahrain can conveniently pay for COVID-19 testing requests through this service.
- Sending health records to ‘Tawakkalna’ app for Saudi citizens and residents.
- For Monkeypox, the app provides:
- An isolation certificate for those affected
- A recovery certificate that can be viewed and printed
- List of General Decisions and Guidelines: Stay informed with important announcements and access a list of all decisions issued by the Kingdom of Bahrain regarding COVID-19 and Monkeypox
Technologies Utilized in BeAware Bahrain App
The BeAware Bahrain Mobile App, utilizing cloud and location data, enables the Government to swiftly identify, traceback and warn people who have been in contact with someone who is showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. The BeAware Bahrain application is available in six languages (Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali and Persian) to ensure that no one is left without access to the application.
The application is paired with a Bluetooth enabled, water and tamper-proof smart bracelets to augment the sharing of real-time tracking information of self-isolated individuals with health workers. The application also notifies the users in self-isolation to schedule their compulsory exit swab tests 3 days before the end of their isolation period.
How to get the BeAware Bahrain App
We urge the public to download the app available for both iOS and Android users via the eGovernment Apps Store for their safety.
Smartphone Permissions used by BeAware Bahrain App
- Geo Location
Geo-location information is used for contact tracing and setting home location during the user's COVID-19 home isolation which is later deleted after completion of isolation.
- Physical activity data
Physical activity data provides fine-grained access to location information which helps with collecting more accurate location data for COVID-19 contact tracing which is later deleted.
- Bluetooth
Bluetooth information is required while the user undergoes COVID-19 home isolation and has been provided with an electronic wristband.
- Calendar
This feature is used to save the app users' COVID-19 test appointment details to the user's default phone calendar, so they are reminded of their appointments.
- Photos/Camera/Audio/Video
Enables app users to upload photos and pictures of COVID-19 home isolation disputes request, report COVID-19 rapid test results, and take photos during home isolation time period.
- Download
Enables app users to download COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate and PCR certificate.
- Files in media/shared storage directories
Enables app users to upload documents related to COVID -19 home isolation disputes, reporting vaccines and other issues.
Why Does BeAware Bahrain App Use Location Information?
The BeAware Bahrain app Privacy Policy describes how we treat the app user information when using the BeAware Bahrain app, including location information.
- This page provides additional information about the location information we collect and how the app user can control the permissions.
- As citizens and residents, we both have a community and individual responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
- BeAware Bahrain is a mobile application that assists efforts to contain and mitigate the spread of Corona Virus COVID-19 by advancing contact tracing efforts.
- Location information assists with tracking the user's location to see if the user has been in close contact with any COVID-19-positive cases avoiding the spread of the novel virus.
How is Location Saved in BeAware Bahrain App?
The user location information is securely saved in the BeAware Bahrain backend application and is used for COVID-19-related services ONLY. The location information is not used for any other purposes.
The data collected is automatically deleted in 30 days. The location information is permanently deleted and destroyed.
