  • Decree No. (16) of 1991 (PDF, 790KB, 19 pages, Arabic only) regarding the accession of the State of Bahrain to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the General Assembly in November 1989
    The decree included the accession of the State of Bahrain to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the General Assembly in November 1989.
  • Decree No. (8) of 2000 (PDF, 33.0KB, 1 page, Arabic only) ratifying the amendment of Paragraph (2) of Article (43) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the General Assembly in November 1989.
    The decree included the ratification by the Kingdom of Bahrain of United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. (50/155) approving the amendment of paragraph (2) of Article (43) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child by replacing the phrase “eighteen experts” with the phrase “ten experts.”
  • Decree No. (12) of 2001 (PDF, 379KB, 11 pages, Arabic only) approving the accession of the State of Bahrain to International Labor Organization Convention No. (182) of 1999 regarding the prohibition of the worst forms of child labor and immediate measures to eliminate them.
    It included the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Convention, which obliges the state parties to take immediate measures to prevent and eliminate the worst forms of child labor.
  • Law No. (19) of 2004 (PDF, 572KB, 18 pages, Arabic only) approving the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the two Optional Protocols on the involvement of children in armed conflict, the sale of children, child prostitution, and child pornography included in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
    It included the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the two additional protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and stipulated that children must not participate in the armed forces, sale of children, child prostitution, or be engaged in pornography.
  • Law No. (37) of 2012 (PDF, 225KB, 17 pages, Arabic only) promulgating the Child Law.
    The law includes provisions related to children's right to health, food, social care, education and alternative care, the right of a disabled child to care, rehabilitation, and education. In addition, it protects the child from abuse through the establishment of a Child Protection Center and stipulated different penalties for violating the provisions contained therein.
  • Law No. (17) of 2015 (PDF, 96KB, 8 pages) regarding protection from domestic violence.
    To protect families, the Family Guidance Office at the Ministry of Social Development or the centers licensed by the Ministry will provide family counseling services and awareness on violence, and take the necessary measures to reduce family violence, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, by developing curricula that promote a culture that rejects domestic violence.
  • Law No. (19) of 2017 (PDF, 391KB, 31 pages) with respect to the promulgation of the family law.
    The law deals with the provisions of engagement and marriage and their implications for the Sunni and Jaafari sects.
  • Law No. (4) of 2021 (PDF, 272KB, 27 pages) promulgating the Restorative Justice Law for Children and their Protection from Maltreatment.
    The law’s provisions include the establishment of restorative justice courts for children and their structure, creation and jurisdiction of the Childhood Judicial Committee, cases in which children are considered to be at risk, and the measures that may be taken in this regard. In addition, it established a Child Protection Center in the Ministry of Social Development, specified the parties to which reports, and complaints must be submitted for cases of child endangerment or ill-treatment, and stipulated some penalties for violating its provisions.
  • Decree No. 23 of 2021 (PDF, 93.2KB, 1 page, Arabic only) amending some provisions of Child Law No. 37 of 2012.
