Digital Justice Collaboration
Digitizing Justice: Bahrain's Leap Forward
The integration of digital justice in the Kingdom of Bahrain extends to the operations of the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs & Waqf. This ministry, in collaboration with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) (Arabic only) and other related bodies, focuses on establishing justice in the Kingdom. Their vision encompasses preserving rights and freedoms, maintaining public and private funds, and promoting an independent, effective judicial body. They emphasize utilizing advanced technologies for efficient legal and administrative systems, contributing to the nation's investment appeal and adherence to the rule of law. This approach aligns seamlessly with the digital transformation of courts and cases, fostering an environment of judiciary independence and modernization.
The Ministry's strategic vision is to serve as the bedrock of justice, ensuring that the rights and freedoms of individuals are protected and upheld in accordance with Bahrain's constitution (PDF, 168 pages, 1.77MB) and legal frameworks. By fostering an independent judiciary, characterized by specialization and the efficient use of technology, the Ministry not only safeguards civil liberties but also bolsters national and international confidence in Bahrain's legal system. This comprehensive approach to justice is key to maintaining Bahrain's standing as an attractive destination for both investors and residents, thanks to its commitment to transparent, effective, and accessible judicial services.
In a bid to match global technological trends and societal advancements, Bahrain has been proactive in digitizing its court services. The Court Services in Bahrain can be completed online from filing a case to the execution stage, with a single and unified payment for all judicial fees. With its strong digital foundation, infrastructure, and digital policies, Bahrain was one of the few countries in the world to continue full-court services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To provide citizens and residents with even more convenience, Bahrain's judicial system also introduced authorized and empowered private institutions to provide some of the judicial services including Private Notary (Arabic only) and Private Executor services, governed by the Ministry, to conduct notary and execution services with more flexibility and convenience.
This digital shift is prominently featured on Bahrain's National Portal, bahrain.bh, offering a wide array of eServices. These range from the execution court documents, public announcements, case management, licensing, and agency operations. This digital integration enables convenient and user-friendly access for both local citizens and international stakeholders, further enhancing Bahrain's profile as a modern, digitally advanced nation committed to judicial excellence and transparency.
