Medical Emergencies

This section explains how to access emergency medical services and how to handle injuries or sudden health conditions, including ambulance services available in the Kingdom.

Medical emergency services in Bahrain are available 24/7. To request an ambulance, call toll-free number 999 from any phone in the Kingdom. It is recommended to follow the guidelines for making emergency calls to ensure a quick, effective response.

Medical emergencies can include: road accidents, heart attacks, severe respiratory issues, trauma, burns, acute psychiatric crises, home births, neonatal care, and on-site deaths, among others needing urgent medical attention.

Emergency medical care is available at public and private hospitals and health centers across Bahrain, overseen by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) and the Ministry of Health.

First aid

First aid is the initial care provided before professional help arrives. It is a crucial part of the emergency response system, starting at the moment of an incident until the ambulance arrives. Proper first aid can save lives.

Interested individuals can enroll in first aid training through the Bahrain Red Crescent Society.

National Ambulance Project

Launched by Royal decree in 2018, the National Ambulance Project improves the responsiveness of Bahrain’s emergency medical services. Managed by the National Ambulance Center, the network connects ambulances to stations and emergency departments at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) Hospital, and King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) to ensure fast, reliable coverage nationwide.
