Bahrain's Vision 2030: Advancing Sustainable Energy and Water

Strategic Leadership in Electricity and Water Management
The Kingdom of Bahrain is at the forefront of electricity and water management, pioneering innovative practices that prioritize sustainability and operational efficiency. In alignment with Vision 2030, Bahrain has set a robust framework to ensure the sustainable and resilient provision of electricity and water to all citizens, residents, and businesses. The government’s unwavering commitment is reflected in its efforts to meet international standards and elevate the quality of life throughout Bahrain.

Reliability and accessibility are central to Bahrain’s approach, ensuring continuous services delivered to the highest specifications. The integration of advanced technologies, policy innovation, and a strong focus on sustainable resource management position Bahrain as a regional model for electricity and water services.

National Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Bahrain’s sustainable development strategy emphasizes the adoption of renewable energy and the enhancement of energy efficiency, aligning with both national and global sustainability objectives. The Government of Bahrain, through its proactive policy measures, has implemented numerous initiatives that aim to conserve energy, optimize consumption, and foster a green policy culture.

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) is dedicated to delivering reliable and efficient services that support Bahrain’s sustainable growth. EWA’s core mission revolves around three principal goals:

  • Provision of clean energy
  • Ensuring clean water and sanitation
  • Promoting responsible consumption and production

These objectives are embedded in every aspect of EWA’s operations, guiding its pursuit of service excellence and community well-being.

National Programs and Digital Transformation
Kafa’a Program: Driving Energy Efficiency
One of EWA’s flagship initiatives is the national program “Kafa’a”, designed to reduce electricity consumption across both public and private sector buildings. Implemented in collaboration with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), Kafa’a aims to achieve significant milestones by 2040:

  • Saving approximately 975 GWh of electricity
  • Reducing carbon emissions by about 488,000 tons
  • Flattening peak energy usage to minimize the need for expanded generation capacity

This program is a cornerstone of Bahrain’s energy conservation policy and contributes directly to the country’s climate action commitments.

Advanced eServices and Customer Empowerment
EWA’s digital transformation is embodied in its customer service and billing system, a platform that empowers users to manage their accounts, review bill history, make payments, and access a full suite of services. These advancements are closely aligned with Bahrain’s national digital transformation strategy, enhancing accessibility and convenience for all stakeholders.

EWA’s unified smart grid infrastructure incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, such as smart meters, a non-revenue water management system, and an outage management system, all accessible via a newly launched mobile app. This unified approach streamlines operations, improves customer satisfaction, and elevates service delivery standards.

Enhancing Customer Engagement and Participation
Direct Communication and Feedback Channels
EWA places significant emphasis on customer engagement through dynamic digital channels. The Authority leverages its website and social media platforms to foster active communication, gathering customer feedback and insights that inform strategic improvements.

The National Suggestion and Complaints System, Tawasul along with the dedicated Tawasul mobile app, provides customers with efficient channels to express concerns and suggestions. This integrated feedback mechanism ensures that EWA remains attuned to stakeholders’ needs and maintains a responsive, transparent service culture.
