  It included the ratification by the Kingdom of Bahrain of United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. (47/111) approving the amendment of paragraph (6) of Article (8) and adding a new paragraph to it under No. (7) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 1965.
• Decree No. (11) of 2000 (PDF, 180KB, 5 pages, Arabic only) ratifying International Labor Convention No. (111) of 1958 regarding discrimination in employment and occupation.
  The decree included the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ratification of the Convention, which requires the state parties to enable the enactment of legislation prohibiting all forms of discrimination and exclusion on any basis, including race, color, sex, religion, political opinion, national or social origin in labor legislation, and the establishment of the principle of equal opportunities.
• Law No. (4) of 2004 (PDF, 1.94MB, 51 pages, Arabic only) approving the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and its two complementary protocols.
  The Convention addresses and combats transnational organised crime in the judicial and security fields.
• Law No. (56) of 2006 (PDF, 603KB, 17 pages, Arabic only) approving the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
  The law stipulated the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Convention, which listed a number of civil and political rights, and obligated the states parties to it to respect and ensure that all persons under jurisdiction enjoy all the rights stipulated therein without discrimination, in addition to taking legislative or other measures necessary to put these rights in restrictions and ensuring effective redress for anyone whose rights and freedoms are violated.

  The charter dealt with the most prominent rights and basic freedoms that human beings should enjoy in Arab countries.
• Law No. (10) of 2007 (PDF, 490KB, 13 pages, Arabic only) approving the accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s government to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
  The agreement stipulated a number of economic, social, and cultural rights that persons must enjoy for them to live in dignity and freedom.

  To protect families, the Family Guidance Office at the Ministry of Social Development or the centers licensed by the Ministry will provide family counseling services and awareness on violence, and take the necessary measures to reduce family violence, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, by developing curricula that promote a culture that rejects domestic violence.

  The law deals with the provisions of engagement and marriage and their implications for the Sunni and Jaafari sects.
