Backup Policy
The Kingdom has taken significant steps to ensure that government services are provided without interruption. In April 2023, the Ministerial ICT Committee, led by H.E. Minister of Interior General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, issued the "Backup Policy" to support this goal. The Backup Policy guarantees that critical business data is regularly backed up securely and reliably, ensuring it is available for restoration in case of data loss, disasters, or system failures.
This policy applies to all government entities and is mandatory for all mission-critical systems, whether hosted on-premise or on cloud computing environments. The policy follows the 3-2-1 backup strategy to guarantee that three copies of your data are always accessible and ready for recovery. Two of these copies are stored separately, while the third is kept offsite and offline with no connections to any system or network. Additionally, our policy outlines clear roles, responsibilities, and procedures for the following key areas:
- Backup Planning and Requirements
- Backup and Retention
- Restoration
- Testing and Validation
The Backup Policy is available for government entities and relevant stakeholders, and is publicly accessible through the National Enterprise Architecture website.
