Open Data Initiatives

Open Data is well regulated in Bahrain under the personal data protection law (PDPL) which came into action in 2018 to regulate the data dissemination process and gives individuals in Bahrain rights in relation to how their personal data can be collected, processed and stored.

Besides the Open Data Portal, there are many other government websites that provides open data sets such as:

• Ministry of Education (MOE Open Data) provides statistical data, educational and financial reports on schools, students and educational institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Ministry of Health is working to share open health data (beta) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and to improve transparency in the health care system.
• Ministry of Social Development provides open data on individual and community development and all forms of support and care.
• Ministry of Finance and National Economy also provides a list of all economic agreements and free trade agreements between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Arab and foreign countries, the date of their final signing and the time of their entry into force, in addition to the laws and circulars issued by the Ministry of Finance and National Economy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
• Civil Aviation Affairs issues statistics related to passenger traffic, aircraft, air freight, mail, and other related activities.
• Data on the marine Environment and seawater analysis provided by the Supreme Council for the Environment are available.
• Central Bank of Bahrain provides facility data and interest rates, and the Government Securities Issue Guide.
• Labor market indicators for Bahraini and foreign labor available on the Labor Market Regulatory Authority.
