BeAware Bahrain’s Digital Framework Set Example in Combating COVID-19

With the COVID-19 pandemic raging across the globe in 2019, the Kingdom of Bahrain has set an example for proactively focusing on nation-wide preparedness and collaboration to strengthen the country’s ability to successfully manage the pandemic. BeAware Bahrain initiative is the Institutional resilience & innovative response to the COVID-19 pandemic through a Whole-of-Government approach digital framework supported by various integrations with key stakeholders.

The “BeAware Bahrain” App is a quick and reliable response to an active situation within the society using open source, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data analysis, and Cloud technology. Its agility capitalized on the matured interoperability among different institutions (Public and Private) involved in the Pandemic containment. The App engaged Society, and individuals as key players and ultimate beneficiaries. The App provided doctors with live data to be able to identify patterns and improve guidelines and treatment while providing health administrators with estimations to ensure sustainability of health services and business continuity.

The Government of Bahrain decided to implement a Digital COVID-19 Vaccine passports as early as mid-February 2021. Bahrain became one of the first countries in the world to use a digital COVID-19 vaccine passport. BeAware App functions as a digital vaccine passport that officials can verify. The BeAware app can be used for future potential pandemics to assist in the tracking and spread of new viruses.

National Genome Program

Bahrain took pioneering steps in healthcare, launching the National Genome Program in 2019, which aims to collect 50,000 samples from citizens to draw Bahrain’s genetic map and create a comprehensive database that contributes to monitoring and preventing genetic diseases.
